The inclusive sports Leadership academy
2023 dates will be released in Spring 2023
Shift Sports offers sport leaders the opportunity to come together as a cohort and spend 2.5 days (approx. 16 hours) learning about diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) concepts and their application in the sports / business context. The academy is an opportunity for sport leaders to expand their understanding of DEI, why it is important, and how they can be leaders for change in their organizations.
The Inclusive Sports Leadership Academy (ISLA) is an immersive experience, consisting mostly of deep reflection and discussion. ISLA is not your typical conference where participants select workshops and attend a selection based on their needs. Fellows will have the opportunity for self-exploration and reflection and to learn about tools to confront their own biases and socialization.
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how systems of power (white, male, able-bodied supremacy for example) permeate our business and recreational organizations. For many, they will leave with questions for their ongoing DEI journey, as well as some tangible actions they can take in their organization. Ongoing support for Academy fellows is available through Shift Sports one on one coaching (discounted for Academy graduates).
Each Academy cohort is kept purposefully small and will contain no more than 20 participants. There is an application process and entry into the Academy is not guaranteed. Given the popularity of this opportunity, we cannot accept everyone who applies, and do our best to ensure we have a diverse group of leaders in each cohort. We do maintain a waitlist, and also offer limited scholarships. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Topics covered will include:
Learning methods utilized will include:
ISLA is held in-person because the in-person, immersive experience is crucial to our DEI journeys.
